Evan DaCosta is a sophomore at the University of Notre Dame, majoring in political science and minoring in the Gallivan Program for Journalism, Ethics, and Democracy. Evan is particularly interested in populism and nationalism, international conflict, and the influence of media on political behavior. He is originally from a small town just north of Boston, Massachusetts, and attended high school at the American School in London in St. John’s Wood, London, where he was inducted into the National Honor Society. Evan is a dual citizen of both Portugal and the United States, and is conversational in Spanish and Portuguese.
He is currently a news writer at The Observer, the independent student newspaper serving the student bodies of both the University of Notre Dame and St. Mary’s College. Evan is also the host of Pod, Country, Notre Dame, a political podcast that discusses contemporary political issues and how they affect students across the country. The podcast is sponsored by the Notre Dame Student Government, and can be found at the Student Government website. Evan also works at the Political Science Department at the University, as a student assistant.
This upcoming summer, Evan will be working as a ranch hand on a farm in Colorado, where he hopes to be able to improve his creative writing and photography skills.
